“This year’s refined seafood 2021 is “Gravet Laks” (gravlax)from Garnviks Røkeri. Congratulations!”
This was announced by Det Norske Måltid (The Norwegian Meal) Thursday evening. With a double nomination in the finals, Garnviks Røkeri secured the coveted gold. Thus, Vidar and Heidi Garnvik, along with the rest of the gang in the Frøya-located business, could celebrate with gusto. They have finally achieved the dream of going all the way to the top in the prestigious national competition.
Garnviks Røkeri has been in the semi-finals three times and in the finals twice. Last time in 2020. However, the dream was to go all the way to the top. Finally, the islanders secured the gold.
“This year’s winner has a beautiful color and smells fresh from the sea. The judges taste nice tones of spice and hints of citrus. This is an inviting piece of seafood that we want more of in the shops”, says the jury in its reasoning.
The finalists in the Refined Seafood of the year were:
- Gravet Laks – Garnviks Røkeri, Trøndelag
- “Røkt Ørret” (smoked trout) – Garnviks Røkeri, Trøndelag
- "Tradisjonell einerrøkt svanøylaks" (traditional juniper smoked svanøy salmon) – "Svanøy Røykeri" (Svanøy Smokehouse), Vestland
